Uses of blogging for educational purposes

There are many ways and reasons for blogs to be used in an educational setting.
When you use a blog outside the classroom the teacher no longer becomes the main focus of the class. They become the facilitator for the students. This gives the students the ability to interact with each other and put forth ideas and opinions that they would not raise their hands in class to state. Shy students or students with lower levels of ESL, can also actively participate using online translators.
Blogs also opens a space for parents and teachers to interact. Parents can see what their child is doing and can use the blog to interact with the teacher about the certain assignments or their child’s participation. In addition, parents and teachers can keep and open line of communication open between them. Moreover, similar to the teacher- student blog, parents and teachers with limited language capabilities can use blogs to communicate, using language translators.
Finally blogs can bring you closer with the teachers within you school and grade levels by increasing the ability of teachers to create interdisciplinary lesson and unit plans. In addition, blogs set up a line of communication between teachers so they can consult with each other about problems in class or with a student. In this way they can work together to help a specific student of set of students, or diffuse a situation
